Würzburg is celebrating: The largest free & outdoor festival is starting soon!

A colorful weekend is ahead, as the popular “Free and Outdoors” festival in Würzburg is ringing in its 37th edition from June 19th to 22nd, 2025. With a diverse line-up on five stages, the event, which takes place in the picturesque Mainwiesen area, promises an unforgettable experience for all music lovers and families.

From Thursday to Sunday the city will once again be dominated by music. With over 100 artists from various genres including rock, hip-hop and singer-songwriters, there is something for every taste. The first sounds can be heard on Thursday from 3:30 p.m. before the festival comes to its crowning conclusion at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. Würzburger Leben reports that due to its great popularity, the organizers expect up to 100,000 visitors annually, making U&D one of the largest festivals in Bavaria.

Diverse offers for the whole family

During the day, the festival becomes attractive not only for music fans, but also for young families. An extensive children's program awaits the little guests, including face painting, a bouncy castle and a climbing wall. There will also be a reading tent where the kids can immerse themselves in exciting stories. Parents can relax with refreshing drinks and various culinary offerings provided by over 20 different food stalls offering vegetarian, vegan, fish and meat dishes. Safety regulations and important information

With such a big event, there are of course some rules to follow. To ensure the safety of all guests, certain items such as deodorants, pocket knives as well as drugs and places for outside catering with alcohol consumption are taboo. Drinks and food are not allowed, but prohibited items can be safely stored at the Talavera entrance for a fee of 5 euros. Lightweight camping chairs and sunscreen are permitted, but no spray bottles.

An additional focus is also on environmentally friendly behavior. It is permitted to smoke in defined places, but the consumption of cannabis is only permitted in designated zones. A smart move to protect younger visitors and promote a positive atmosphere.
