Honor for the Silent Heroes: Four volunteers honored!

At the Weilheim District Office, four outstanding personalities were recently awarded the Bavarian Prime Minister's Decoration of Honor for their many years of voluntary commitment. The award ceremony took place on January 20, 2026 and honored the tireless work of the honorees, some of whom have been strengthening social and cultural cohesion in their communities for decades.

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß presented the awards on behalf of the Prime Minister and underlined the important role that volunteers play in Bavaria. After all, volunteering is an integral part of Bavarian culture, and loudly so Stmas Around 40% of those over 14 are involved in society. Their achievements, which are often locally rooted, have been recognized with the decoration since 1994 to honor the outstanding achievements of people who actively support good causes.

Honored personalities

Those honored include:

• Marianne Bußjäger aus Wildsteig: Sie führt seit 50 Jahren das wöchentliche Frauenturnen und erfreut sich an einer loyalen Gemeinschaft von durchschnittlich 25 Teilnehmerinnen im Alter von 40 bis über 80 Jahren. Ihre Organisation rund um Ausflüge und Feste bereichert zudem das Gemeindeleben.
• Marianne Tafertshofer aus Polling: Seit über 30 Jahren engagiert sie sich im Hintergrund des Trachtenvereins D’Ammerbergler und hat insgesamt 50 Jahre aktive Mitarbeit im Verein geleistet. Ihre Arbeit dient dem Erhalt von kulturellem Erbe und Brauchtumspflege.
• Franz Tafertshofer aus Polling: Der Sohn von Marianne Tafertshofer ist ebenfalls seit über 30 Jahren im Trachtenverein aktiv, wo er seit 2025 als 1. Vorstand fungiert. Er hat unter anderem drei große Jubiläumsfeste organisiert und trägt zur Durchführung von Veranstaltungen wie Straßenfesten und Maibaumaufstellen entscheidend bei.
• Rudolf Ottl aus Obersöchering: Im Gebirgs-Trachten-Erhaltungsverein Stoaröserl Söchering engagiert er sich seit über 50 Jahren. Als Mitorganisator des ersten Dorffestes 1991 und zahlreicher Jubiläumsveranstaltungen hat er wesentlich zur Förderung des Gemeinschaftslebens beigetragen.

Volunteering in Bavaria
