Construction site alarm: B470 between Weiden and Alpenrose from August 25th!

Important construction work will soon take place in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate. From August 25, 2025, the Amberg-Sulzbach State Building Authority will start work on the renovation of the B 470 between Weiden and the Weiden-West industrial area. The measure not only serves for renewal, but is also a preparatory action for larger construction projects that are due next year. The intersection area at “Alpenrose” is particularly affected, where the traffic entering from Pressather Straße is redirected by the police. The diversion takes you via Joseph-Haas-Straße and Christian-Seltmann-Straße. In addition, road users on Latscher Straße must expect a diversion via Latsch and the Frauenricht junction.

Preparatory measures and cycle path

The preparatory work should be completed by the end of the summer holidays. After the main work, the cycle path in the city of Weiden will be expanded and reinforced, which should happen without any disruption to traffic. This cycle path will then serve as a temporary access road next year. The Federal Republic of Germany is covering the costs for the entire project. The State Building Authority recommends that those who know the area avoid the route if possible during construction.

But the B 470 is not the only construction site affecting the region. Loud Bavarian State Building Authority There is also work to be done on two bridge structures on the B 470. These were selected for replacement due to structural defects and damage to the substance of the dirt road underpasses. Construction began at the beginning of April 2025, and traffic will be reallocated to the temporary bypasses at the end of May 2025.

Detours and costs

During the work, the roadway will be reduced from three to two lanes, and a detour for bicycle traffic will be set up via the towns of Reichenbach and Ohrbach. After the traffic has been reallocated, demolition work on the dilapidated bridges will begin, and the relocation of traffic to the B 470 is planned for October 2025. The total costs for this measure amount to 3.4 million euros, also financed by the federal budget.
