Unterallgäu awards social prize: Integration is celebrated big time!
On November 18, 2025, the Unterallgäu district social award was awarded in the Mindelheim district office, this time with a special focus on the topic of “integration”. In his opening speech, District Administrator Alex Eder praised the outstanding initiatives and projects that strive to integrate people with a migrant background. A total of 6,000 euros were awarded to further develop and maintain the award-winning projects.
First place went to the “VerAplus” support program from the Senior Expert Service (SES) from Memmingen. This remarkable project supports over 200 trainees with a migrant background free of charge and has an impressive completion rate of 75%. The initiative enables young people to benefit from the experience and knowledge of retired specialists and managers during their training. Since 2011, over 20 retirees have already supported 214 trainees, meaning that “VerAplus” received the most jury points and thus won the main prize, says Merkur.
Other award winners and initiatives
Second place went to the “Integrationskreis Mindelheim”, which has been active since 2003 and offers numerous offers, including German courses, interpreting services, help with administrative procedures and child care. In addition to these services, the integration group also organizes joint celebrations and swimming courses. The group is currently looking for new colleagues to continue its valuable work, informs New Facts.
Third place went to the “Bicycle Workshop” from Türkheim, which has been implementing mobility-promoting measures for migrants since 2015. Supported by the community and local donors, the workshop gets bicycles and motorcycles moving again, ensuring that migrants can get to train stations and accommodation more efficiently. This project aims not only to promote mobility, but also to improve coexistence in the community.
Integration through diversity
The awarding of the social prize underlines the district's own efforts to actively promote integration. Against this background, an integration office was set up within the district office to launch numerous new initiatives. Eder emphasized that the projects submitted were primarily about topics such as learning German, encounters and offers for children.
The funding sources for such projects are diverse. European funding, which is awarded by the federal and state governments, plays a crucial role. Programs such as AMIF (Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund) and ESF Plus provide financial support for integration projects. These resources are essential to overcome social challenges and improve the living situation of disadvantaged groups, as bpb shows.
The awarding of the social prize shows that great efforts are being made in the Unterallgäu district to strengthen cohesion and offer everyone a fair chance in society. “We must continue to focus on integration and harmonious coexistence,” concluded District Administrator Eder at the ceremony.
