Raid in the district office: forgeries of residence permits uncovered!

The police searched the premises of the Unterallgäu district office on Monday. The investigation focuses on an employee and irregularities at the immigration office. This is reported by the Augsburger Allgemeine. The suspicion: An employee is said to have forged residence permits from 2021 to the end of 2023 and issued them without checking the legal requirements. Evidence of bribery and false certification was picked up by the criminal police in Memmingen.

The first irregularities were discovered in mid-December 2025. During the investigation, incriminating evidence came to light. The suspicion that the employee demanded something in return poses another problem. The Memmingen public prosecutor's office then requested a search of the suspect's workplace and apartment.

Current developments and legal situation

The Memmingen district court issued an arrest warrant against the employee, but it was suspended by the investigating judge. The criminal police took the employee into custody, while the district office immediately initiated labor law measures. Until a final conviction is made, the presumption of innocence applies, a fundamental legal regulation that also applies in such cases.

The investigations will continue to be conducted under the direction of the Memmingen public prosecutor's office. The allegations highlight the vulnerability of the system when processing residence permits and the urgency of stopping such practices.

Strict rules for passport photos

Particularly young applicants under the age of three are also advised to have their passport photos taken in a certified photo studio or drugstore. The district office points out that self-service devices are available for taking the photos, but this requires precise instructions and is associated with costs.

Population and statistics

No wonder that the topic of residence permits and migration often makes headlines. According to a publication by the Federal Statistical Office on the foreign population in Germany Statista refers, there will be a variety of different residency statuses in 2024. This issue is also noticeable in rural regions such as Unterallgäu, where more and more people have to apply for a residence permit for various reasons.

The current events surrounding forgeries in the immigration office show once again how important it is to ensure the integrity of such institutions.
