Minimum wage for roofers increases: Check your balance in Weiden now!
From January 1, 2024, roofers in Northern Upper Palatinate can look forward to a new financial foundation. IG BAU has raised the minimum wage for this important craft group, which is important for thousands of employees in the region. This regulation also applies in Weiden, where five roofing companies are located. IG BAU reminds employees to check their own payslips in January and offers support to ensure that all employees actually receive the new minimum wage. The situation is similar in the Tirschenreuth district, where around 70 employees in twelve companies can enjoy this new wage. Here, as in Weiden, there are repeated calls to check billing.
New wage floors for the region
The Neustadt/WN district, which is home to eight roofing companies, will not remain unaffected by this increase. Here too, the minimum wage of 16.60 euros for journeymen and 14.96 euros for unskilled workers will apply from January 2024. Particular attention is paid to the fact that IG BAU calls on employees to check their pay slips carefully. Carsten Burckhardt, federal board member of IG BAU for the roofing trade, emphasizes that the new minimum wage limits are absolutely necessary to protect employees and ensure a minimum income in order to make the industry more attractive.
But that's not all. IG BAU is optimistic about the future and has already announced further wage increases for the next two years. From January 1, 2025, the minimum wages are to rise to 16.00 euros for qualified and 14.35 euros for unqualified employees, while the second stage of the collective wage increase, which came into force on October 1, 2023 for companies bound by collective agreements, was raised nationwide to 21.12 euros, as on IG BAU can be read.
With the reduction in the winter construction levy from 2 to 1.6 percent from October last year, not only the employer but also the employee feels the relief, as the employee share falls from 0.8 to 0.6 percent. The aim of these measures is clear: employees should benefit from improved wages and at the same time sustainable working conditions should be created in the roofing trade.
The positive news comes at the right time and shows once again that craftsmanship is on the rise in Northern Upper Palatinate. These changes will not only strengthen the financial security of many employees, but will also increase the overall attractiveness of the roofing profession. A good step for the region!
