Young candidate Annie Schraml: A breath of fresh air for Tirschenreuth!
In Tirschenreuth the signs point to an election campaign! With the nomination of Annie Schraml, the Left has brought a breath of fresh air into the political ring. The 22-year-old was unanimously elected as mayoral candidate and brings fresh perspectives. Schraml works as a medical assistant and is training to become a surgical assistant. Its goal is to anchor the visibility and long-term representation of social perspectives and common welfare concerns in the city council, as oberpfalzecho.de reports.
A clear focus of the Left is on securing health care close to home. The party also wants to create and maintain affordable housing and expand local public transport. Particular importance is attached to close cooperation with citizens. “Solidarity and shared decision-making are central values for me,” emphasizes Schraml. Next Sunday the political competition with the local elections will be exciting, as the CSU also has a strong candidacy.
The CSU and its candidate
The CSU Tirschenreuth is committed to continuity and has nominated Harald Siegert as its candidate for mayor. The 55-year-old brings a lot of experience with him: after 40 years at Deutsche Post, most recently as location manager, he is well anchored in Tirschenreuth. As a father of three adult children and grandfather of a granddaughter, Siegert knows what is important to the people of the city. His commitment to volunteer work, including as a youth worker at FC Tirschenreuth and as a long-time parent representative, suggests a good sense of the needs of citizens, according to csu-tirschenreuth.de.
Siegert is committed to strengthening education and care and is planning, among other things, to renovate the middle school and expand the kindergartens. Securing the economy and jobs through the development of new commercial areas is also one of his priorities. A progressive urban development concept with new building projects and modern infrastructure is also on his agenda. “I am not a professional politician, but rather a citizen with local roots,” he says about the aim of his election campaign strategy to focus on personal conversations with people.
Local elections in Germany
The local elections, which will take place next Sunday, are the decisive moment for citizens to cast their votes. In Germany, these elections are particularly important because they help form political will at the local level. In addition to the mayoral positions, the elections also determine the parliamentary representations in municipalities and cities. This is what the Basic Law provides in Article 28. In the upcoming elections, all Union citizens from Tirschenreuth are entitled to vote and can vote, as the Federal Agency for Civic Education explains.
The average turnout in local elections is generally lower than in state or federal elections. Nevertheless, the election often reflects the direct interests of citizens, as many voters support smaller parties or local citizens' initiatives. The possibility of cumulating and variegating allows voters to distribute their votes strategically and thus exert their own influence. The candidates Schraml and Siegert are now competing for the trust of Tirschenreuthers, with voting behavior being strongly influenced by local issues and commitments.
The coming days until the election are likely to be exciting, and the citizens of Tirschenreuth expect their political representatives to tackle the city's pressing issues. Be it improving public transport, education issues or the creation of housing - the issues are diverse and voters are faced with an important decision.
