First dual student at Caritas Tirschenreuth: A new path into social work!

Big news from the great Tirschenreuth: Caritas Tirschenreuth-Wunsiedel has trained its first dual student, Anna Hironimus, and has now officially taken it on. “This is a great step for the region and shows that we are on the right path,” explains board member Martin Kneidl. Hironimus will lead the general social counseling service and thus provide targeted support to people in need.

The dual study program, which has been established in Germany since the 1970s, combines theoretical course content with practical professional experience. It offers aspiring social workers the opportunity not only to learn theory, but also to gain real insights into the diverse social fields of work, as Hironimus was able to experience during her studies. These include child care, nursing and counseling services, which gave her a comprehensive perspective on the challenges in social work.

Diverse experiences

Thanks to her training, Hironimus has her hands full - she not only supports general social counseling, but also the addiction counseling and family support teams. This flexibility is of great importance for Caritas. Kneidl emphasizes how important it is to have well-trained specialists at your side. It takes people who go to work with a good hand and are there for clients.

But Caritas doesn't just work to support people in need. The history is just as impressive: The Caritas St. Laurentius and Paul Support Center, founded more than 100 years ago, helps around 650 people with disabilities every day so that they can lead meaningful and self-determined lives. The offers range from support at home to comprehensive care in the facilities and ensure assistance in all areas of life, from school to leisure activities.

A new path for aspiring social workers

Caritas Tirschenreuth-Wunsiedel is looking to the future with optimism and is already looking for additional dual students in the field of “social work” for the coming summer semester. If you are interested, take the opportunity and call 09631/798920. A dual course of study is an excellent opportunity to gain a foothold in social work and gain diverse experience - a degree and practice in one, there's a lot to be gained!

But what do you need for a dual course of study? You should have a high school diploma, a technical college diploma or a subject-related university entrance qualification. In many cases it is helpful to have had some initial experience in the social sector, for example through internships or a voluntary social year. The pressure should not be underestimated, because the course requires a lot of commitment from the students, both during the practical phases and during the exam periods.

Overall, developments in Tirschenreuth show that social work is not only important, but also exciting and challenging. Thanks to courageous and dedicated students like Anna Hironimus, the future of social services will certainly remain strong and vibrant.
