City center master plan: Better Straubing for everyone! Join us!
Today, September 23, 2025, the city of Straubing is dedicating itself to the future of its city center. The charming old town is not only a hub for trade and community, but also a place that tells stories. In view of the challenges caused by changing consumer behavior, booming online trade and increasing vacancies, an innovative approach is required. The city center master plan, which the city is now implementing, is committed to actively shaping this change. One of the first steps in finding an opinion is an online survey that gives all interested citizens the opportunity to submit their suggestions and concerns. Anyone who takes part also has the chance to take part in raffles where they can win Straubing vouchers and family tickets for the popular zoo in Straubing. The city also invites everyone interested to a citizens' meeting on October 1, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the Joseph von Fraunhofer Hall to discuss the future of the city center together.
Five topic areas for a lively city center
The city administration has formulated five central topic areas that are to be addressed as part of the master plan:
- Steigerung der Aufenthaltsqualität durch ein vielfältiges Angebot und temporäre Events.
- Ausbau der digitalen und überregionalen Vermarktung der Innenstadt.
- Weiterentwicklung von Tourismusangeboten in der Innenstadt.
- Verbesserung der Erreichbarkeit und Mobilität, wie kurzzeitige Parkplätze, Radabstellmöglichkeiten und die Anbindung des öffentlichen Nahverkehrs.
- Entwicklung von Nutzungsschwerpunkten und Qualitätsarealen, beispielsweise Einkaufszonen, Kulturquartiere und Gastronomiestraßen.
This strategy, inspired by similar measures in other cities such as Frankfurt, focuses on strengthening local trade and promoting an active community. Similar to the Erlebniscity Frankfurt master plan, which deals with the topics of gastronomy and leisure, a lively city center is to be created in Straubing that meets the needs of its citizens and at the same time attracts visitors.
