A remarkable incident in Bogen clearly shows how important vigilance is in the digital age. A suspected fraudster was arrested on Friday after a 52-year-old woman became suspicious. The lady recognized a so-called shock call as a scam and immediately informed the police. The caller posed as a prosecutor and claimed that the woman's daughter had been involved in a serious accident. In order to protect her daughter from a draconian prison sentence, the woman had to pay a deposit of a whopping 42,000 euros.

The arrested man is a 25-year-old man from Serbia. He is not only suspected of playing a crucial role in this attempted fraud, but could also be involved in other cases in Augsburg and Ingolstadt. The Regensburg public prosecutor's office and the Lower Bavaria Criminal Police Inspectorate are conducting the investigation, while an arrest warrant for commercial and gang fraud was issued on Saturday at the Regensburg district court.
