Colorful emotions: Jeanne Dees inspires in the Starnberg Museum

The new exhibition “Feeling Color” by the talented artist Jeanne Dees opened its doors at the Starnberger See Museum on September 19, 2025. The 17th Starnberg art prize winner, who was born in Berlin-Wilmersdorf in 1963 and currently lives in Wessling, brings a refreshing view of the world of colors with her works. The exhibition is on view until November 2, 2025 and offers visitors the opportunity to discover the diversity and depth of her art.

Jeanne Dees, who was awarded the Art Prize of the City of Starnberg in 2022, used her time at the Paul Thiem Studio in Starnberg between 2023 and 2025 to create most of her current works. A lot of passion goes into her work, which she creates with a sure feel for color harmony and contrasts. As she herself says, her compositions are closely linked to personal thoughts and feelings, with interaction with the viewer taking a central place. “I really enjoyed my time in the studio because it is important for artists to be seen,” says Dees.

Creative development and musical opening

The exhibition opening was musically accompanied by Hannes Graf, a guitarist and singer-songwriter from Murnau. A beautiful setting to properly celebrate Dees' colorful works. Third mayor Christiane Falk was also there and emphasized the importance of art and its promotion. She also mentioned the possibility of expanding the art prize for future winners to include media and sculpture, which could give further impetus to cultural life in Starnberg.

Entry into the artistic world

Benjamin Tillig, who has headed the museum since 2009, was recognized for his dedicated work, even though the number of employees has been reduced by half since 2019. Amid these challenges, the museum manages to offer an exciting program that benefits both local artists and visitors. The art of Jeanne Dees is in the foreground when viewing - her works use high-quality oil paints on linen and are characterized by a special color harmony that addresses the relationship and effect of the colors to one another.

With her specific techniques, for example when working in series such as “Dancing Lines”, where she sews leftover linen together into impressive large pieces, Dees shows what a good knack she has for color painting. Her pictures are not only colorful, but also emotionally charged and convey the artist's experiences and thoughts in an impressive way.

With “Feeling Color” Jeanne Dees sets a lively accent in the Starnberg art scene and invites everyone to become part of her colorful world. Further information about the exhibition can be found on the website Starnberg Lake Museum.
