Start your career in Schweinfurt: Training fair inspires students!

The Gochsheim middle school's training fair took place on November 27, 2025, and the city of Schweinfurt was represented with its own stand. The training manager, a colleague from the professional fire brigade and two committed trainees were available to answer any questions the students had about training and to provide exciting information about various training careers. This laid an important foundation for showing young people the many opportunities available to them in the city. Revista.de reports that the city offers career entry points in administration and commercial professions.

The training fair is more than just an event – it opens doors. The exchange between students and potential employers is encouraged, which is crucial for starting a career. If you want to take a look at the available careers, you can find comprehensive information about the various apprenticeships and study programs on the city of Schweinfurt's homepage.

Schweinfurt Career Information Day

But it wasn't just the training fair in Gochsheim that was a highlight: the Schweinfurt Career Information Day (SBIT) was also a meeting point for young talents and companies. Almost 100 regional companies presented over 500 different training occupations. From foreign trade merchants to cutting machine mechanics, everything was there. Bit-Schweinfurt.de reports of interesting lectures on various topics relating to careers and training, which gave visitors a deep insight into their possible career paths. The event was rounded off with a competition in which participants could, with a bit of luck, win great prizes via Instagram (@bit_schweinfurt).

The event was also free and offered well-thought-out catering with food trucks and a coffee and cake bar - no one goes hungry! The event location, the conference center on the Main Island, provided a beautiful setting for this important trade fair, which aims to support young people on their path to their professional future.

Current training statistics

A look at the training statistics shows what things look like in Germany: In 2023, over 690,000 people started vocational training. In addition, around 486,000 people started studying and were able to choose from 328 different training occupations. Although the total number of trainees was around 1.2 million, over 73,000 training positions remained unfilled. Statista reports that unsuitable applications are often cited as the main reason for not filling training positions.

What was particularly noticeable was that training to become a plumber had the highest proportion of unfilled places in 2023. The popularity of the professions varies greatly: While men increasingly choose technical areas, women tend to prefer commercial professions or work in the healthcare sector. This is also reflected in the large number of contracts for office management clerks, which was the most popular training occupation in 2023 with over 22,600 newly concluded contracts.

In times when interest in training positions is high, it becomes clear how important such trade fairs are. It is in the nature of things that the exchange between companies and future skilled workers must be promoted in order to meet the changing requirements of the labor market. With its offers and events, the city of Schweinfurt actively contributes to closing the gaps between supply and demand and offering young people the best opportunities for their professional future.
