Thunderstorm chaos in the Schwandorf district: fire brigades in continuous use!
On Sunday, June 15th, the Schwandorf district was hit by a violent storm front that not only confused nature, but also claimed the local fire brigades in full commitment. In the municipality of Guteneck there was a surface fire, which, however, could be quickly brought under control thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade. A comprehensive report by Mittelbayerische emphasizes that the spread was successfully spread.
But the challenges did not fail to materialize. The thunderstorm pulled over several communities, especially about Schmidgaden and Fensterbach. Not only surface fires were reported there, but also numerous weather -related operations that needed a coordinated reaction. So it occurred primarily in the districts of Schmidgaden and Trisching, as well as in Knölling and Wolfring
missions and coordination
The district operations center (KEZ) was activated to support the emergency services on site. In the central coordinated twelve emergency services, including Julia Birner and Kilian Schmidbauer, who not only documented the missions, but also ensured communication between the different units. A big thank you goes to the team from Schmidgaden, Trisching, Nabburg, Brudersdorf, Dürnsricht and other municipalities, which threw around 130 to 140 forces into the balance.
A total of twelve areas of application were processed, including several focal points such as the school center and the kindergarten in Schmidgaden as well as a sawmill and a car painting in Fensterbach. Between midnight and 6 a.m. on Monday, June 16, eleven other missions were reported due to flooding and fallen trees.
forest fire risk in the focus
The incident in the Schwandorf district almost seems like an echo of the situation in the Harz, where a large fire is currently raging on the chunk. According to ZDF , hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest must be secured, which are threatened by numerous forest fires there. While the district of Schwandorf has got away comparatively lightly during the thunderstorms through targeted measures, the risk of forest fires remains a serious topic that increasingly comes to the fore in summer.
The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes that the risk of forest fire in Germany has been reduced in recent years with better monitoring and early prevention, but as in 2018 and 2019, extreme weather conditions clearly show how quickly the situation can change. In particular, fires in more affected regions such as Brandenburg ensure a rethink in preventive fire fighting and support the exchange of experiences between the different fire brigades.
The Schwandorf district fire inspection gratefully comments on the tireless efforts of all fire brigade and appeals to the population to carefully handle fire so as not to be in danger. Because only together, with a good hand for prevention and quick missions, can be used to stand up to the storms and fires.
