Freihöls fire station: renovation almost completed - celebration of the 125th anniversary is approaching!

The renovation of the fire station in Schwandorf-Freihöls is nearing completion. After a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on November 6, 2023, a lot has happened in the last few months. The total costs for the renovation work are around 300,000 euros, which will go towards urgently needed modernization. Mayor Andreas Feller recently visited the construction site and was pleased with the progress of the work. During his visit, he emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure for the fire service, which is essential in today's world.

Why is this conversion even necessary? The original space was inadequate and there was no clear separation between the women's and men's rooms. This posed not only a practical but also a hygienic problem. With the new circumstances, the Freihöls fire department will now be better prepared for future challenges.

Anniversary celebrations

Another reason for joy is imminent: the Freihöls fire department is celebrating its 125th anniversary! Celebrations are planned for this special occasion from June 27th to 29th, 2025. The event will not only focus on the history of the fire department, but also highlight volunteer work. The aim is to appeal to a broad audience – both young and old.

The outdoor facilities have already been completed, but we still have to wait for the fiber optic connection from Deutsche Telekom. This expansion will not only improve communication, but also bring the fire station's technology up to date.

Promotion of the fire station

Such measures are not only important for fire protection, they are also supported by various programs, such as the municipal fire infrastructure program. Local fire protection providers can benefit from a grant of up to 60 percent of the total eligible expenditure, which is very helpful for financing such conversions. A real stroke of luck for communities, which often rely on volunteers.

New buildings, extensions and conversions of fire stations not only improve the infrastructure, but also create the basis for future generations of firefighters. With its commitment, the Freihöls fire department shows how important it is to invest in modern structures and bring the community together.

For anyone who would like to find out more about the renovation work, the media library of the Bavarian State Fire Brigade Association offers an informative video this page to. Overall, it is an exciting project that will lead the Freihöls fire department into a new era.
