Freihöls fire station: renovation almost completed – a new beginning!

The Freihöls Volunteer Fire Department is facing a significant milestone: the renovation of its fire station, which was officially started with the groundbreaking ceremony on November 6, 2023, is now nearing completion. The necessary renovations became unavoidable due to the insufficient space in the previous vehicle hall. These conditions meant that the distance to emergency vehicles could not be maintained, which in the past represented a higher risk of accidents. In addition, it was not possible to create a clear separation between the women's and men's rooms.

The members of the volunteer fire department attach great importance to improving these conditions. Mayor Andreas Feller (CSU) and building authority manager Reinhard Schade recently took a look at the progress of the renovation work and emphasized the importance of an efficient fire service and modern infrastructure. The total investment for the renovation is expected to be around 300,000 euros and should be completed by the end of June 2024. The outdoor facility has already been completed quickly; only the fiber optic connection from Deutsche Telekom is still waiting to be installed.

Celebrations and anniversary

The Freihöls volunteer fire department is facing a special highlight this year: it is celebrating its 125th anniversary. To mark this occasion, a festival weekend is planned from June 27th to 29th, 2024, which will take place under the patronage of Mayor Andreas Feller. The program promises exciting events for young and old and honors both the history of the fire department and the voluntary commitment of its members.

The fire station at its current location was built in 1953 and has had an exciting history since then. Originally divided into four areas, it included, among other things, a community scale, a room for the grain cleaning room and an armory for the volunteer fire department. The last renovations took place between 2008 and 2009, when the building was completely renovated. These measures not only included the replacement of all non-load-bearing walls, but also the installation of a new concrete floor and modern aluminum gates and doors.

The fire department has developed significantly since then and can now rely on two garages with storage space and a room specially equipped for emergency clothing. The ceremonial blessing of the house took place on June 27, 2009 by city priest MMag. Thomas Renner and the former city priest Mag. Josef Gründstäudl.
