B12 renovation: diversions and closures from June 24, 2025!
From June 24, 2025, the B 12 federal highway between Prienbach and Ering in the Rottal-Inn district will become a major construction site for a period of around three months. The reason for the renovation is extensive modernization measures, which will be carried out in three longitudinal construction sections, each with two construction phases. The aim of the work is to keep traffic disruptions for drivers as low as possible. During the work, traffic from Passau to Munich will remain on the B 12, but will be routed alternately through the construction site.
A diversion has been set for traffic in the opposite direction, i.e. from Munich to Passau. Drivers can drive from the Neuötting junction of the A 94 to the B 588 via Reischach and Mitterskirchen to Eggenfelden. Alternatively, the route takes you on the B 20 to Eggenfelden and from there on the B 388 towards Passau. A diversion is also offered via St 2110 near Schwaim to the A 94 near Kirchham.
Details about the construction phases
The first construction phase starts on June 23rd at 6 p.m. and affects the southern lane, which will be closed from the bridge over the Kirnbach to the Loher intersection. However, vehicles turning right from PAN 1 and Loh onto the B 12 are permitted, while turning left is prohibited. From July 5th, the traffic protection will be converted to the northern lane, with left turns from Bahnhofstrasse and Lohnerstrasse onto the B 12 being permitted during this second construction phase. However, turning into PAN 1 and Loh is no longer possible.
Important for commuters and residents to know: The intersections B 12/Sankt-Anna-Straße in Ering and the B 12/PAN 7 in Prienbach are not affected. However, the intersection B 12/PAN 1/Bahnhofstrasse near Ering will be closed in the first construction phase. In order to continue to ensure traffic safety, the right-turn lane at the Loher intersection will also be extended towards Ering.
Further effects in the district
Preparations for further projects along the B 12 are already in full swing. The Passau State Building Authority is currently planning to convert the junction of state road 2132 with the B 12 in the Ort district of Freyung into a junction. These measures are aimed at increasing traffic safety and quality at this busy junction. Ready work on the construction site bypass, which includes the expansion of the community road near McDonald's, has been underway since September 9, 2024.
As part of this project, the B 12 will be lowered in the future and a roundabout with connecting ramps will be built, which will be on an upper, second level. This project is expected to be completed by 2027.
