Paramedics in Bad Feilnbach: Brutal attack during patient transport!

A worrying incident recently occurred in Bad Feilnbach in the Rosenheim district, in which two paramedics were attacked during a patient transport. According to reports from pnp.de The incident happened on Wednesday at around 3:00 p.m. when paramedics tried to take a man to a hospital.

During the operation there was an argument with the patient's mother, who attacked the rescue workers together with her boyfriend. The 38-year-old attacker, a Cuban citizen with no permanent residence in Germany, kicked one of the paramedics down a flight of stairs and then attacked the second paramedic, who also fell to the ground due to injury. Both paramedics suffered moderate injuries and had to be treated in clinics in Rosenheim and Bad Aibling.

Legal consequences

The local police temporarily arrested the attacker, and the Traunstein public prosecutor's office filed an application for arrest, after which the investigating judge ordered pre-trial detention. The man now faces charges of grievous bodily harm and assault on law enforcement officers.

During these serious incidents, we must also confront the conditions that make such attacks in the emergency services possible again and again. According to a study by the German Red Cross, about drk.de was published, rescue workers report at least one attack within a year. Of particular concern is the fact that over 40% of paramedics experience only verbal violence. The results of the study illustrate how often both verbal and physical aggression occur in this professional field.

An alarming situation nationwide

However, the situation is not limited to Bavaria. In large cities such as Berlin, over 500 attacks on rescue workers were also reported between January and August 2024, with attacks increasing by almost 20% in 2023 compared to 2022 rbb24.de reported. These numbers shed an alarming light on the safety of emergency responders, who are often on the front lines, committed to the well-being of others.

The SPD MP Jan Lehmann is therefore calling for a comprehensive prevention strategy and the introduction of a safety guide for both hospitals and emergency services in order to improve the situation and ensure safety during operations.

A general rethink is necessary - not only with regard to the legal consequences for attackers, but also through training measures to better prepare rescue workers for such incidents. Any attack on these brave people is an attack on society itself.
