500 young rescuers show great skills in the knowledge test!

Around 500 members of the youth fire brigades from the Rosenheim district took part in this year's knowledge test and impressively demonstrated their skills. This event, which took place today, included both a written questionnaire and practical exam tasks that challenged the participants quite a bit. The young firefighters aged 12 to 18 mastered all the challenges and were ultimately able to proudly earn badges and certificates. Marco Polster, the district youth fire brigade warden, recognized the young people's commitment and emphasized how valuable their hobby is for the community. Each participant had the opportunity to actively engage with security-related topics as part of the tasks.

But what exactly was part of the knowledge test? The practical tasks included making an emergency call to 112. Participants had to explain how the rescue chain works and also demonstrate how to put a patient in the recovery position while verbally explaining the steps.

First aid and the rescue chain

A central topic of the test was first aid, particularly measures for bleeding wounds, shock and burns. Recent surveys show that there are often uncertainties among the population when carrying out first aid, which is why this knowledge is particularly important. The rescue chain describes a clear process that leads from immediate measures to clinical care in the hospital. Emergency numbers such as 112, clear location information and the use of immediate measures such as chest compressions or applying a pressure bandage are crucial. In this test, the young people not only demonstrated their knowledge, but also gained valuable experience for emergencies.

A sensible approach in training is to sensitize participants to the various aspects of first aid, especially in the youth fire department. This knowledge is not only important for the fire service, but also for everyday life and can save lives in an emergency. As the fire department magazine aptly summarizes, the first step in the rescue chain includes your own safety. This is particularly relevant when working at accident scenes where other road users also need to be warned.

Integration in the youth fire department

While the knowledge test represents an excellent opportunity to promote the young people's practical skills, integration within the youth fire departments also plays an important role. The German Youth Fire Department has set a clear example with its “Our World is Colorful” campaign to show the diversity of its members and attract more young people to the fire service. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of young people with a migrant background and the focus on recruiting girls for the fire department.

Partners in this integrative campaign include the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance. The individuality and openness of the youth fire department is promoted through various seminars and offers. The aim of all this is to reach difficult young people and to position themselves against right-wing ideas.

Overall, it can be said that the knowledge test was not only an opportunity to test the young people's skills and knowledge, but also offered an exciting forum to focus on important topics such as first aid and integration. The youth fire department will therefore continue to be an attractive and important service for society in the future.
