Cottbus gives away the lead: Regensburg fights to make it 2-2!

The game between the teams from Energie Cottbus and Jahn Regensburg, which took place today at the Friendship Stadium, was a thrilling duel in the 3rd league. The turning point after the break

After the break, the guests from Regensburg increased the pressure and pushed for a goal. In the 62nd minute it was captain Christian Kühlwetter who made it 2-1 with an impressive shot from 18 meters. Regensburg was now in control and had a great chance to equalize the game in the 65th minute, but Funk was able to defuse both Adrian Fein's shot and Kühlwetter's follow-up shot. The tension in the stadium rose when a shot from Benedikt Bauer landed on the crossbar in the 67th minute.

In the 70th minute, Lukas Michelbrink tried to turn things around for Cottbus, but Regensburg were undeterred. The pressure paid off: In the 78th minute, Kühlwetter scored the much-celebrated equalizer to make it 2-2 with a shot into the right corner. The game was finally open again.

One point for both teams

In the final phase, Cottbus pushed for a renewed lead and also had a few chances, but Regensburg's defense held firm. The game ultimately ended with a fair 2-2 draw. Through this point, Cottbus remains in a direct promotion position. After 19 match days, the team is once again in high form, but does not have the autumn championship in its own hands and needs a mistake from Duisburg.

Regensburg can also be satisfied with this result, as the team found its way back into the game with fighting spirit and passion. The next meeting for Cottbus is against Saarbrücken on January 17th, while Regensburg will play against Ingolstadt on January 16th.

Once again it was shown that anything is possible in the 3rd league and that you shouldn't give up even after falling behind. Cottbus offered a lot of excitement and remains within sight of the top places, but Regensburg also showed that they are dangerous. There is clearly still a lot of music to be expected here in the second half of the season.
