Bietigheim Steelers under pressure: Regensburg hits back decisively!
The Bietigheim Steelers suffered a bitter defeat on Sunday evening, October 12th, in the Donau-Arena in Regensburg. They lost 5-1 to the Eisbären Regensburg, which catapulted them to sixth place in the DEL-2 table. Once again it became clear that Bietigheim was stuck in the bottom of the table with just two points from four games. Injury problems, particularly the loss of Alex Dostie, are taking a toll on the team.
The Steelers started the game quite promisingly, but the supposed optimism quickly collapsed in the second third. After a period of strong pressure, in which Jack Dugan hit the crossbar twice, the Regensburg team were able to hit back. Constantin Ontl made it 3-0 for the hosts after a counterattack, while Bryce Kindopp scored the fourth goal in the 38th minute - a goal that came after a fine pass from Corey Trevino. The Steelers fans who traveled with them demanded: “We want to see you fight!” But Bietigheim couldn't take advantage of any of their chances and had to painfully realize that there was a lack of consistency this season.
The polar bears are showing strength
The Eisbären Regensburg, who played an exciting duel against the Eispiren Crimmitschau on Friday, have already created a solid basis with 10 points from 5 games. In the encounter, the team around goalkeeper Kevin Reich, a former DEL keeper, was extremely focused and motivated. However, Regensburg have also been plagued by injury problems and some players have suffered ailments. But despite these challenges, they have fielded a full squad.
The game against Bietigheim was also organized as an integration game day, where the integration committee and the Regensburg sports office worked hand in hand to promote a similar spirit among the fans. Tickets for this were available at www.ebr.live, and fans were really looking forward to the game.
Back to the challenge for the Steelers
It will now be important for the Steelers to continue to pull themselves together and collect the necessary points, because the road out of the bottom of the table is rocky. They have to make better use of their chances in the coming games and overcome the tense situation with the injuries up front. One thing is certain: If you want to start your own positive run, you have to quickly lick your wounds and tackle the next challenges with fresh enthusiasm. The next test is already waiting around the next bend, and everyone involved is called upon to react - in the spirit of the Bietigheim fans, who finally want to have reason to be happy again.
