Heroines of the future: FSJ in the diocese of Passau changes lives!

In the diocese of Passau, two FSJ members, Rebekka Seidl and Saskia Eiler, are about to complete their voluntary social years, which end at the end of August. Both look back on a year full of experiences and developments that have strengthened them in their personal and professional careers. Rebekka describes her year as “enriching” and emphasizes how much she has grown, both personally and in her interactions with her colleagues. Saskia, on the other hand, emphasizes the positive experience of making new acquaintances and really enjoys her time in social work.

Saskia Eiler, who wants to study “social work” in Deggendorf in the fall, sees her FSJ as an important step in her professional future. She can easily imagine working in the youth office or at the episcopal youth welfare office. Rebekka Seidl, on the other hand, will start training as a speech therapist in October and will also remain in the social sector. Her decision to go in this direction was further solidified by her FSJ experiences, as she had already wanted to work in the social sector. Diocese of Passau reports that both feel no regrets about their decision to join the FSJ.

Being active in the FSJ is the key to personal growth. The tasks that the volunteers take on are diverse: from support with organizational activities to direct assistance in working with children. Many have paid great attention to improving their communication skills, which strengthens them in both their private and professional lives. This development is not only beneficial for the young people themselves, but also benefits the people they look after.
