Rückholz rectory: renovation planned for several million euros!

In the picturesque Rückholz in Ostallgäu, the old rectory on the main street is in a worrying condition. It was once the proud seat of the provost of the Saint Mang monastery, built by the respected architect Johann Georg Fischer. But the historic building is empty and is rapidly falling into disrepair. In order to counteract this gradual deterioration, the community is planning a comprehensive renovation, such as this Allgäu newspaper reported.

At a recent citizens' meeting, Mayor Franz Erl presented the renovation plans. The expected costs for the general renovation amount to several million euros, which should not be underestimated. The mayor has already announced that examinations of the building are underway to accurately assess its condition and develop the best plan to save the monument.

Important monuments in Rückholz

The rectory is not the only historical building in Rückholz. According to the Wikipedia There are a total of nine registered monuments in the municipality. These monuments are not only cultural heritage, but also part of the community's identity.

  • Haus Nummer 55 – Kruzifix aus dem 17. Jahrhundert.
  • Katholische Kapelle St. Simon – Neubau aus 1925 mit alter Ausstattung.
  • Katholische Kapelle St. Peter und Paul – Erbaut um 1659, erweitert 1673.
  • Katholische Kapelle Hl. Dreifaltigkeit – Wohl Anfang 18. Jahrhundert.
  • Bauernhaus (Haus Nummer 20) – Obergeschoss in offener Blockbauweise, datiert auf 1816.
  • Kapelle (Haus Nummer 57 1/2) – Erbaut 1920.
  • Katholische Kapelle St. Antonius – Erbaut 1689, erneuert 1782.
  • Haus Schwalten (Schwalten 65) – Walmdachhaus von Richard Riemerschmid aus dem Jahr 1910.
  • Katholische Kapelle St. Franz Xaver – Holzbau aus 1947.

Incidentally, this list, which is maintained by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation, is not always synchronized with the current status of the official list of monuments. It is important that the municipality of Rückholz contacts monument preservation at an early stage, especially when it comes to planned projects.

The future of the rectory

The Rückholz rectory not only has the protected status of an architectural monument, but is also part of the region's history. The community sees the renovation as an opportunity to not only preserve the building, but also to strengthen the community and inspire future generations to learn about local history. Mayor Erl made an unusual proposal to cover the financial resources for the renovation. However, details are not yet publicly known.

It remains to be seen whether the renovation of the old rectory will be successful and what path the community will take to give the historic building a new life. The people of Rückholz are looking forward to the future and are waiting for further information about this exciting project.
