Theater storm hits the waves: News from Oberallgäu!

What is happening in the world of theater in the Allgäu? The Oberallgäu Cultural Community (KGO) is at the center of lively cultural encounters and has a lot to report. On November 4th, the New Globe Theater will be on stage in Haus Oberallgäu in Sonthofen with the production “Sturm”. This piece reflects the current interest of the audience, which is increasingly enthusiastic about comedies after the pandemic. “Jesus loves me,” “Braunschlag” and “The Broken Jug” are also popular titles and show the changing tastes of theatergoers. This reports Mercury.

The KGO is not only a meeting place for theater lovers, but also a platform that promotes art and cultural exchange. The highlight of its annual event is the art exhibition “Die Südliche”, which offers local and national artists the opportunity to present their works and seek dialogue with the audience. Such initiatives are important to strengthen the creative potential of the region, as the KGO official website makes clear.

A loss for the community

A drastic loss for local culture is the demolition of the Hofgarten in Immenstadt, which was once a central social meeting place. Alfons Zeller, the chairman of the KGO, expresses his disappointment at this loss, as the theater is an indispensable place for social gatherings for many, especially for single people.

The cultural community has now organized its performances in several other locations, including the Maria Stern multi-purpose hall in Immenstadt, the Kurhaus in Oberstaufen and the Haus Oberallgäu in Sonthofen. Particularly noteworthy is the theater bus, which takes subscribers from Immenstadt to the performances - a practical service that improves the accessibility of the cultural offerings.

The financial side of culture

The KGO is financed through subscriptions, sponsors and various grants. The city of Sonthofen contributes 18,000 euros annually, the city of Immenstadt 20,000 euros and the district contributes 5,000 euros annually. These payments are essential to maintaining cultural programs and covering financial deficits. Funding is a central issue, as shown deutsches-ehrenamt.de is explained. The federal government invests around 2 billion euros in art and culture every year - a fact that underlines the importance of these areas and makes it clear how important these financial injections are for local projects.

Alfons Zeller has announced that he will step down from his post in November, which represents a new challenge for the KGO. A new board is being sought to continue the important work and further enrich the cultural offerings in the Allgäu.

The current KGO program can be viewed on the website kulturgemeinschaft-oberallgaeu.de. Anyone interested can find all information about upcoming performances, current topics and events here. At a time when cultural encounters are so crucial, the KGO remains a beacon for artistic diversity in the Allgäu.
