A fresh wind blows through the Upper Allgäu communities! Since the beginning of May 2025 there has been a new digital photo service for passport photos, which can be used in both the city and municipal administrations. This innovation is the result of a legal regulation that pursues the goal of increasing security in pass, ID and document beings. The digital change in the citizens' offices

With the introduction of digital photo systems, the technical equipment in the citizens' offices is also increased. At the beginning, 2,500 devices are to be available that will be increased to 10,000 by August 2025. These devices are not only able to make passport photos, but can also record fingerprints and signatures and can be adapted to different body sizes. On top of that, the citizens' offices have to accept digital photos, but do not necessarily have their own devices. The new law for electronic photo transmission did not come overnight. It was decided in autumn 2020 and now comes into force after all technical and organizational steps have been completed. In exceptional cases, paper photos are also allowed until July 31, 2025, although this remains the exception.
