A new wind in the hospitals: Guido Schmidt takes over management!
From October 1, 2025, Guido Schmidt will take over the management of the Hospitals Nürnberger Land GmbH (KNL). Schmidt succeeds Marco Zipfel, who will be leaving the clinics in Lauf and Altdorf after one and a half years for personal reasons. This personnel change provides a breath of fresh air in the KNL management.
48-year-old Guido Schmidt brings extensive experience with him, having worked in the KNL administration since 2006. He has been in charge of the “Administration and Control” department since 2020 and knows the two hospital locations inside out. His origins from Hersbruck are another advantage, as regional ties are of great importance in healthcare.
A farewell with foresight
Marco Zipfel, who was in a management position until the change, managed the clinics in a crucial phase and was previously responsible for the Hildburghausen clinic. “I would like to thank Marco Zipfel for the collaboration and for developing a medical concept that was important for the Lauf and Altdorf locations,” said Dr. Andreas Becke, Managing Director of KNL. Zipfel is now returning to his Upper Franconian homeland, where he will certainly tackle new challenges.
Schmidt himself has already expressed his thoughts on the new responsibility: "I attach great importance to the employees and patient care in the district. The future of our clinics is important to me here." His deep-rooted connection to the region should help him to further develop the KNL and address the challenges in the healthcare sector.
A good view
In today's world, good hospital management is more important than ever. The KNL faces challenges that must be overcome in the coming years. But with Guido Schmidt's experience and commitment, the KNL is well positioned to continue to be a reliable contact point for all health issues in the Nuremberg region in the future. It remains to be seen how the structures will develop under Schmidt's leadership and what impulses will be given.
The handover of the business will take place in the coming weeks, and both employees and patients can look forward to seeing what highlights Schmidt will set. The anticipation of changes at the KNL is palpable, and many are hoping for positive further development of the locations in Lauf and Altdorf.
The region is watching the development with great interest because, after all, local health care depends on these clinics. Here Find out more about the background to the leadership change and the KNL's next steps.
