District Administrator Ebeling strengthens palliative care in the Schwandorf district!
An important step for palliative care in the Schwandorf district: District Administrator Thomas Ebeling has recently joined the Pallicura Förderverein e.V. This association is passionate about improving the palliative and hospice supply in the region. At an appointment in the district office, the board members Sonja Kellner, Melanie Weber and Managing Director Juliane Schießl-Götz presented him with the membership application, who welcomes Ebeling as a new member.
The district is also in solidarity and supports the support association with an amount of 1,000 euros. This financial aid is used to extensively support seriously ill people and their relatives. Ebeling emphasizes the urgency to promote such a facility. "A dignified and self -determined life for seriously ill people is our common goal," he explains. This requires not only medical support, but also psychological and social support, which the association provides through further training and public relations.
a signal for social support
With his entry, Ebeling sends a clear signal: the palliative thesis deserves public recognition and social backing. He is confident that other citizens will also follow his example in order to further strengthen the important work in the field of palliative care.
As the German Society for Palliative Medicine informs, there are over 3,000 addresses of hospice and palliative offers in Germany, which are accessible via a newly revised online portal. Palliative care stations, the specialized facilities in hospitals, aim to help the people affected by relieving symptoms and improvement in the quality of life in a challenging time. There are currently around 330 such palliative care stations, of which only 15% can be found in German hospitals.
The structure of the palliative care
In Germany, around 1,500 outpatient hospice services are active, which also contribute to palliative care. Inpatient hospices, both for adults and children and adolescents, use almost 2,600 beds and have been strongly established in recent decades. The numbers speak for themselves: With an average occupancy of 80%, around 36,400 people can be supplied annually. It should be borne in mind that the numbers of specialized outpatient palliative care (SAPV) are growing continuously-there are already 403 SAPV teams in Germany that can be reached around the clock.
The committed voluntary work also has a central role in this field. Over 120,000 people are committed to the hospice and palliative work. A trend that is not only reflected in quantity, but also in the quality of the care that benefits patients.
The Pallicura Förderverein is therefore not only an important part of regional health care, but also an example of what collective engagement can do. Ebeling's commitment also shows that health care is not only the task of professional, but also society - for a life worth living until the end.
