Three vehicles at Kulmain had a crash: High property damage, luckily no injuries!
A serious traffic accident caused excitement on Wednesday morning, June 11, 2025, on the state road 2665 near Kulmain. Around 6:50 a.m. there was a collision between three vehicles: a Mercedes Sprinter, a Skoda and a VW. The 38-year-old driver of the Mercedes from Erbendorf wanted to turn left, but overlooked the oncoming Skoda, directed by a 55-year-old man from Oberviechtach.
like Oberpfalz24.de reported, the Skoda Frontal crashed into the right rear of the van. The impact was so violent that the Skoda was thrown against a waiting VW. Fortunately, everyone involved was not injured; Nevertheless, the estimated property damage amounts to around 36,000 euros. The Mercedes Sprinter and the Skoda were no longer ready to drive after the accident and had to be towed.
Effective emergency call system in use
The emergency call was automatically triggered by the "Ecall" system at 6:54 a.m. This innovative system recognizes serious accidents and sends an emergency call without language response, which actually presents the emergency services with special challenges. The fire brigades Kulmain and Kemnath had to move in with a total of 33 emergency services to take over traffic steering and clean the road. The police are now investigating the exact cause of the accident. During the operational measures, the state road was only passable.
The ecall-system has been mandatory for all new car models in the EU since March 2018 and aims to significantly reduce the number of deadly traffic accidents. Every year, over 25,000 people in Europe die in traffic accidents, and one hopes to be able to reduce this number by 2,500 cases per year. The system automatically sends location data, the number of occupants and the ignition status to the emergency call center, which can contribute to the quick assistance.
With the introduction of the ECALL system, data protection concerns also arise because it can collect location data. So far, however, there are no frequent false alarms. In any case, this incident shows how important such technologies are for safety in road traffic and how they can contribute to improving emergency care.
