Drama in Tyrol: Man rescued by helicopter after electrocution in holiday home!
In a frightening incident in Finkenberg, Tyrol, a 48-year-old man from the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district suffered an electric shock on Saturday. The accident occurred when the man tried to connect an electric stove in his holiday home. He collapsed unconscious. His acquaintance, who happened to be working in front of the house, heard a desperate scream and found the man lying on the ground. He immediately made an emergency call and began resuscitation measures, which can be crucial in such cases, as the DRK emphasizes.
After initial care was provided by rescue workers, the injured man was flown to the Innsbruck clinic in a rescue helicopter. However, the severity of his injuries remains unclear as no exact information is known yet. In the meantime, the police have started investigating the exact cause of the accident. While such incidents are fortunately not common, this case once again highlights the dangers that can arise when handling electrical devices.
First aid measures are crucial
In the context of electrical accidents, it is essential to know the correct first aid measures. According to the BGETEM recommendations, first aiders should first consider their own protection. This means that the power supply must be interrupted immediately - however, in the event of high-voltage accidents, this should only be left to qualified personnel. A safety distance of up to 20 meters must be maintained so as not to put yourself in danger.
After a power interruption, life-saving emergency measures then follow. First, the person's consciousness and breathing should be checked. If the person is unconscious and no longer breathing normally, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) should be performed immediately. This should be continued until signs of life appear or professional help arrives. An automated external defibrillator (AED), if available, can also provide critical assistance by checking the heart rhythm and providing appropriate instructions.
Safe handling of electrical devices
As the DRK warns, special care should be taken when handling electrical devices in damp areas such as the kitchen and bathroom. The risk of electric shock is particularly high here. Defective electrical appliances should be left in the hands of professionals, and it is advisable not to take radios or telephones into the bathroom. In addition, such devices should always be operated at a safe distance from filled bathtubs.
This shocking incident shows that we should all develop some awareness of the dangers of using electricity. The right knowledge of first aid and precautionary measures can save lives in an emergency and make crucial difference in a person's chances of survival.
