Car in Neu-Ulm ablaze – 100,000 euros worth of damage!
On January 16, 2026, a Mercedes burst into flames on Johann-Strauß-Straße in the Offenhausen district of Neu-Ulm. The 50-year-old owner had parked the vehicle in front of her apartment just 15 minutes earlier when the fire suddenly broke out. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the property damage is estimated at around 100,000 euros. The fire brigade was quickly on site and deployed five emergency vehicles, including a turntable ladder truck, which, however, was not needed. Visibility across the area was affected by visible plumes of smoke, prompting the fire department team to ask residents to close windows and leave their homes.
The fire not only damaged the Mercedes, but also a neighboring Tesla, whose left front of the vehicle was affected. The adjacent apartment building was also affected: the facade suffered soot damage, at least one window was broken, and a hedge was damaged. The fire department ensured that all apartments were checked and, if necessary, ventilated with high-pressure fans. While the operation was taking place on site, three police patrols were also on site to look after residents and vehicle owners.
Previous vehicle fires in the area
The fire department quickly came into action and was able to contain and extinguish the fire before it spread to surrounding buildings. However, both vehicles were a total loss, with material damage amounting to several thousand euros, although the exact figures are still being determined. Police determined there was no evidence of arson, and video surveillance also suggested a technical defect was the cause.
These incidents in just a few months clearly show that technical defects in vehicles can lead to dangerous situations. The police and fire departments advise vehicle owners to regularly check their cars for possible defects in order to avoid such incidents. Witnesses to the fire on Industriestrasse were asked to call 0731/8013-0.
