Miltenberg-Obernburg: New technical school for environmental protection from 2026!
The Miltenberg-Obernburg region can look forward to a significant new addition to the education sector: a new technical school for environmental protection technology and renewable energies will be opened from the 2026/2027 school year. This was approved by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, under the leadership of Education Minister Anna Stolz, together with Finance Minister Albert Füracker, as km.bayern.de reported. The technical school will become part of the Miltenberg-Obernburg vocational schools and will act as the northernmost location in Bavaria for this subject area.
The district council's approval was given in December 2024, and on December 4th the district committee decided to cover the preliminary costs through the school budget. This includes, among other things, expenses for advertising, a new logo and roll-up banners to make the technical school known. Information about the course is available on the vocational school's website, and advertising is carried out at trade fairs such as the continuing education fair at the TH Aschaffenburg and the 2025 education fair in Nuremberg.
Target group and training opportunities
The technical school offers further training to become a “state-certified technician for environmental protection technology and renewable energies”. This particularly targets specialists in the fields of chemistry, electrical engineering and metal technology, as well as special professions such as building materials testers, chimney sweeps and farmers who have appropriate professional training. The aim is to train these specialists to become competent experts in innovative solutions in the field of environmental protection and renewable energy, which will also benefit regional companies interested in qualified technicians.
Furthermore, accommodation is available in the Duxer Haus for external students, although large numbers of students are not expected. Chemical internships will take place in the Johannes-Butzbach-Gymnasium, so that no separate chemistry laboratory is required in the vocational school, as landkreis-miltenberg.de announces.
Public funding and support measures
The Free State of Bavaria covers the costs for the teaching staff, which offers the school additional planning security. The district committee also recommends covering the annual cost difference between the Germany ticket and a route-related monthly ticket for students. A difference of around 23,000 euros is estimated, based on 200 students.
Finally, the district committee also supports comments on the new preparation of the regional plan for southern Hesse and the regional land use plan for Frankfurt/Rhine-Main. Particular emphasis is placed on the requirements regarding wind power priority areas and drinking water protection areas, which should further advance regional planning in environmental protection. The reference to the fountains in the city of Wörth and the spring in the municipality of Laudenbach for water protection areas in Hesse is a clear expression of the commitment to sustainable development in the region.
