Memmingen Indians lose to Stuttgart Rebels in an exciting home game!
In the eagerly awaited duel against the Stuttgart Rebels, the ECDC Memmingen Indians suffered a bitter 4:6 defeat today. For the Indians this meant that they had to leave the field as losers this time. If you look at what happened on the ice, it was a game full of twists and turns and exciting moments, but in the end the three points went to Stuttgart.
Why was the game so challenging for Memmingen? In the first third, the hosts had problems breaking through the Rebels' defensive build-up game. Stuttgart took the lead early: David Kirchhoff made it 1-0 in the 7th minute, and Florian Renner increased it to 2-0 just eight minutes later. With this deficit we went into the first third break.
An exciting exchange of blows
The second third began with a bright spot for Memmingen. Tyler Spurgeon reduced the score to 1:2 in the 22nd minute. Brett Ouderkirk then equalized to make it 2-2 (26th minute). But the joy didn't last long; Dane Montgomery put Stuttgart back in the lead in the 28th minute. The Indians showed fighting spirit and equalized 3:3 through Timo Gams (31st minute), before Markus Lillich even took the first lead for Memmingen (4:3, 34th minute). But the celebration was short, as Wyatt Schingoethe equalized for the Rebels in the third period (4:4, 43rd minute).
In the 50th minute, Kirchhoff gave Stuttgart the lead again (5:4), and with Dane Montgomery's empty-net goal in the 58th minute, the matter was decided. In this loss, the Indians were more active in the penalty box, with two penalty minutes compared to the Rebels' four. With an audience of 1,176 spectators, it was clear that the fans' support remained unbroken despite the defeat.
Outlook: Allgäu derby is coming up
Now it's time for the Memmingen Indians not to let their heads down. The next game of the season is on Friday: a long-awaited Allgäu derby against EV Füssen. The Indians want to build on the performance of the last few weeks, when they were able to beat the Heilbronner Falken 3-1 and always with a clear 11-2 against Bayreuth. Before the derby, the Indians have a solid position in the table with 44 points despite their last defeat, despite the recent strong performances of Stuttgart, who are now in 11th place in the table.
Stuttgart will continue to fight for the pre-playoff places. The best players in the Rebels squad, including Dane Montgomery and Alex Blais, have the ability to make a difference in such games.
