Memmingen Airport breaks record: over 3.5 million passengers in 2025!
Memmingen Airport is facing a record year. As [Allgäuer Zeitung](https://www.allgaeuer-zeitung.de/memmingen/flughafen-memmingen-passagiere-rekord-3-5-millionen-jahr-2025- Growthstaerkster-flughafen-allgaeu-airport-9-11-25-112746293) reports, over 3.5 million passengers are expected for 2025 - an impressive leap upwards compared to the 3,242,090 passengers last year. This makes Memmingen the fastest growing airport in Germany since the restrictions caused by the pandemic.
With a strategic location - just four kilometers east of Memmingen city center and well connected via the A7 and A96 motorways - the airport serves travelers from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Austria and Switzerland. It also offers a constantly growing selection of international destinations. Cities such as Brașov, Bucharest-Băneasa, Yerevan, Craiova, Budapest, Chișinău and Manchester are new to the route network. The 2025 summer flight schedule includes a total of 59 destinations in Europe and beyond.
Attractive travel destinations and airlines
The popularity of the airport is reflected in the favorite travel destinations. In 2025, Palma de Mallorca, Tirana, Pristina, Sofia, Skopje and London-Stansted will be very popular. Authorized representative Marcel Schütz emphasizes how important attractive framework conditions are for the airlines in order to further expand this success. Memmingen Airport is operated by Flughafen Memmingen GmbH and currently employs 410 people.
Another interesting fact is that Memmingen Airport is the highest commercial airport in Germany, with an elevation of 633 meters above sea level. This feature not only adds to the uniqueness of the location, but could also stimulate active tourism and attract new travelers.
Aviation is changing
In 2024, airline revenue worldwide is estimated to be around $680 billion, an increase of 12 percent compared to 2019. In this context, too, Memmingen Airport is well positioned to benefit from the demand for low-cost air travel, as over a third of air passengers in Europe choose low-cost airlines.
Frankfurt Airport remains the largest in Germany with 61.2 million passengers in 2024, while Memmingen now ranks tenth among the country's largest airports. Its continuous development and expansion shows that Allgäu Airport is determined to be successful in the highly competitive aviation market.
