Green Ladies at the Clinic: Volunteers bring joy and hope!
Six women volunteers have been working as “Green Ladies” at the Main-Spessart Clinic for several months. This initiative aims to give time and attention to sick and lonely people. Clinic consultant René A. Bostelaar emphasizes the valuable role of the visiting service, which not only strengthens the sense of community but also helps to promote compassion. The Green Ladies offer a wide range of support: They listen, accompany patients to examinations and run small errands to make everyday hospital life a little easier.
Ursula Freund, one of the Green Ladies, describes the fulfillment she derives from patients' smiles. “It’s wonderful to see how a small gesture can bring great joy,” said Freund. Gaby Krutsch also wants to help relieve the burden on nursing staff through her commitment and share her joy of life with the patients. Alexa Pohl found inspiration through her volunteer mother, and she is also convinced that you can do something meaningful by volunteering.
Shared values and support
The visiting service of the Green Ladies is an integral part of everyday clinical life at the Main-Spessart Clinic. Nursing Director Carmen Passe emphasizes how important this support is in times of uncertainty and loneliness. Andrea Amend, head of department, adds that the Green Ladies' commitment not only has a positive impact on the patients, but also on the entire clinical team. “It is important that we stand together as a community,” said Amend.
The Green Ladies are part of a Germany-wide network that is organized under the umbrella of the Evangelische Kranken- und Altenhilfe e.V. (eKH). According to eKH, the Green ladies and gentlemen are active in hospitals, rehabilitation and elderly care facilities and wear green coats to show their identity. Their goal is to share the joy of life in everyday life and to help people who are often alone. Typical activities include listening, reading, accompanying people to therapy and offering social activities.
Commitment and opportunities
What is particularly noteworthy is the great commitment of the Green Women and Men, who have over 6,000 volunteers in over 500 facilities nationwide. The Green Women and Men have clear requirements for those interested, including a minimum age of 18 and a weekly commitment of 2 to 4 hours. Empathy, reliability and confidentiality are essential to work in this area. Anyone who is interested can contact the nursing department at the Main-Spessart Clinic directly and get to know the volunteer work. The contact can be reached at 09352 505-1600.
It is a sincere and admired commitment that the Green ladies and gentlemen show in our society. Their work not only matters for patients, but it also strengthens the community and brings people together.
