Big festival at Rothenfels Castle: East Palace reopened after renovation!

History meets the present: On Whit Sunday, June 8th, the East Palace at the majestic Rothenfels Castle was ceremoniously reopened. Over 1,000 guests celebrated the successful completion of a comprehensive renovation project that took over three years. Organized by the castle's sponsoring association and chaired by Claudia Hamelbeck, the event was very well received, despite the changeable weather.

The East Palace, the largest part of the castle, shines in new splendor after extensive restoration. Thanks to total funding of 8.6 million euros, provided by both the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria, this ambitious project was successfully completed. In his speech, Alexander Hoffmann, a member of the Bundestag, praised the impressive progress and the importance of this restoration for regional culture, while a member of the state parliament, Thorsten Schwab, discussed the challenges of such projects.

A celebration for young and old

The reopening attracted an extensive program that thrilled children and adults alike. In the castle courtyard there was a stage with a varied program from 12:00 p.m. The Hanke Brothers provided musical entertainment with a family concert at 3:30 p.m., followed by an evening concert with the instrumental band Wildes Holz. In addition to the concerts, visitors could also take part in guided tours about the history of the castle or find out more about the newly renovated rooms.

Family friendly activities were another highlight of the day. The varied program across the entire castle grounds was supplemented by lectures and various offers that offered all age groups an unforgettable experience. Hamelbeck was visibly pleased with the great interest and active participation of the visitors on this special day.

Culture and visitor magnet Rothenfels Castle

Rothenfels Castle is not only a historical jewel, but also an important attraction in the region. The positive development of Bavarian palaces and castles is also reflected in the number of visitors. Finance and Homeland Minister Albert Füracker recently reported that more than 3.5 million people visited Bavaria's cultural monuments in 2022 - almost three times as many as in the previous year. Rothenfels Castle contributes to this trend and is part of a variety of popular attractions that attract Bavaria all year round.

The extensive support of the Bavarian castle administration, which manages over 45 of these historical sites, plays a central role here. The efforts to increase visitor numbers and preserve the region's cultural wealth are evident and contribute to the continued appeal of these distinctive places.

The castle festival and the reopening of the Ostpala impressively show how lively and relevant the cultural landscape in Bavaria is. Here, history can be experienced and the connection to one's own tradition is kept alive. You can find more information in the reports from POW, Burg Rothenfels and Süddeutsche.
