There will be a big celebration in Straubing on August 16, 2025. The Gäubodenvolksfest Cup, in which four clubs from the PENNY DEL take part, ensures exciting ice hockey games and the first tests for the coming 2025/26 season. In a thrilling semi-final, the Nuremberg Ice Tigers beat ERC Ingolstadt 4-3 and secured a place in the final. The final phase was particularly exciting, with Will Graber scoring the decisive goal 33 seconds before the end. But the team from Ingolstadt didn't give in easily and fought their way back into the game after a two-goal deficit.
The hosts, the Straubing Tigers, also showed great commitment, but had to admit defeat to the Augsburg Panthers. After a thrilling game that went to a penalty shootout, Augsburg celebrated a 3-2 win. Alexandre Grenier set the stage for the Panthers' triumph with an equalizer in the final minute, who won the shootout.
The grand finale and the side cases
The final between the Augsburger Panthers and the Nuremberg Ice Tigers will take place on Sunday at 12 p.m. Another interesting duel awaits the spectators at 4 p.m. when the Straubing Tigers meet ERC Ingolstadt to play for third place. On Saturday, the Dresdner Eislöwen caused a sensation in an internal DEL preparation game and beat the Iserlohn Roosters 2-1. The goals were scored by Travis Turnbull and Sebastian Gorcik.
In another game, the Ravensburg Towerstars beat HC Innsbruck 2-0, with both goals only coming in the final third. The EC Kassel Huskies' victory was clearer, defeating Villacher SV 4-3 in an exciting penalty shootout after overcoming a two-goal deficit. EV Landshut, on the other hand, suffered a bitter defeat against Dynamo Pardubice 7-0 in the Dolomites Cup.
