Hot air balloons conquer Landshut: summer festival with spectacular races!

Summer is back in Bavaria! With temperatures around 30 degrees, many people have to put away the electric blankets and cups of mulled wine and pull out their bathing suits instead. Grilling, relaxing outdoors and enjoying iced tea are on the agenda. But it remains to be seen how long the beautiful weather will last. But you can look forward to a wonderful event in Landshut: The 28th Lower Bavarian Hot Air Balloon Competition will take place from August 29th to 31st, which is already an integral part of the regional event calendar, as sueddeutsche.de reported.

Organized by the balloon sports group of the Landshut air sports club, the Landshut airfield, also known as Ellermühle airfield, becomes the stage for fascinating balloon launches. The balloon glow will be ceremoniously opened on Friday evening, moderated by music and will take place from 9 p.m. This unique light show highlights the sky and attracts many visitors who want to enjoy the magical moment. On the following days there are balloon launches on the program, which offer something for early risers and latecomers alike. The first starts on Saturday and Sunday start at 6:30 a.m., with others on Saturday afternoon from 5:00 p.m.

Safety and weather conditions

With all the fun, safety must of course not be neglected. Balloon flights depend heavily on the weather conditions. As skytours-ballooning.de explains, trips may only take place under suitable conditions. Criteria such as wind, precipitation, visibility and the general weather situation must be closely monitored. Especially in the summer months, a balloon ride is only possible in the early morning hours or late afternoon hours when the thermals are not too strong.

Last year the event unfortunately had to be canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions. However, it is hoped for better weather in 2024 so that air athletes can send their balloons into the sky again, according to bsg-landshut.de. The anticipation in 2025 is correspondingly great! Anyone who would like to take part in the friendship meeting can register now. The registration deadline is June 30, 2025 at the latest.

It is important to read the terms and conditions carefully and complete the registration form before returning it via email. The cozy meeting among friends is a nice opportunity to experience the fascination of ballooning and create unforgettable moments together.
