Security in Kulmbach: Mayor candidates talk about new measures!

In Kulmbach, the issue of security has become a top priority after the recent incidents at the old town festival and in view of upcoming major events. The city administration has not only responded to citizens' concerns, but also taken concrete measures to increase security at festivals. The discussion about how to avoid acts of violence and unwanted incidents was addressed an hour ago in a question-and-answer session with the mayoral candidates. How Franconian day reported, the candidates were clear about the city's most pressing security issues.

A significant measure coming from the city administration is the general decree, which was issued particularly for popular events such as Beer Week and Italian Night. These restrictions include an absolute ban on carrying knives and dangerous objects during events. In addition, the consumption and carrying of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in public areas. All of this is intended to help citizens feel safer in the old town.

Events at the Old Town Festival

Shocking images of a fight that occurred during the Old Town Festival are further fueling the discussion about security. A video recorded by eyewitnesses shows the dramatic altercation between a 29-year-old from Kulmbach, who wanted to intervene, and others involved. Police believe it was an isolated incident, but are pointing out the possible role of alcohol. Bayreuther Tagblatt reports that the police have now started an investigation into dangerous bodily harm and that witnesses or people with video recordings are being asked to come forward.

In view of these incidents, Mayor Ingo Lehmann emphasizes the importance of clear rules and preventative measures. In order to ensure safety not only in the short term, the city council is also planning to permanently introduce a weapon and knife ban zone in the city center. The expansion of the existing ban on ongoing alcohol consumption in the city center is intended to make it easier for the police to avert potentially dangerous situations from the outset. In addition, “street work” is being reintegrated into the city by trained staff in order to work with young people in difficult social situations.

Security seems to be the top priority, regardless of who succeeds Ingo Lehmann as mayor. One thing is clear: Kulmbach is working to create an environment in which all citizens can feel comfortable and safe.
