Kulmbach is investing 1.2 million euros in modern elevated drinking water tanks

In Kulmbach, 1.2 million euros are being invested in the construction of a modern elevated drinking water tank to improve the drinking water supply. On June 30, 2025, the subsequent resolution of the city council, which was passed unanimously at the June meeting, was passed. This decision makes it possible to continue the already advanced construction work on the new facility near the old Rehberg elevated tank. The old tank, which was built in 1900 and has a capacity of 140 cubic meters, no longer meets today's technical standards and will in future be used as a collecting tank for the new water chambers.

The Kulmbach municipal utilities are joining forces to ensure that high-quality drinking water will continue to be available in the Weiher, Hölle and Plassenburg areas in the future. Plant manager Christof Lange emphasizes the importance of this measure. “It is important to us to offer citizens the best possible drinking water,” says Lange. The new elevated tank will consist of two durable drinking water pipes made of PE material, each with a usable volume of 150 cubic meters and 24.8 meters long.

Construction supervision and safety in focus

The engineering office for BauPlanung IBP GmbH from Kulmbach is responsible for planning the project. The companies Raab Baugesellschaft, Hawle Kunststoff and Richter Steuertechnik are responsible for carrying out the construction work. In order to ensure safety on the construction site, the safety and health protection coordination is carried out by the TS Kompakt office from Marktrodach.

A notable aspect is that the old elevated tank will continue to be used until the new tank is put into operation. This planned approach ensures that there are no gaps in supply during the transition period. Interestingly, permission for the construction was not initially applied for, which ultimately led to the city council's subsequent decision.

The new elevated drinking water tank not only takes a step into the future, but also preserves the monument protection of the old buildings. The city of Kulmbach makes targeted investments in important infrastructure projects that benefit its citizens - a fitting example of how to do good business in the interests of the general public.

In summary, it shows that with this measure Kulmbach is not only responding to the current needs of the population, but is also planning ahead and responsibly. This investment is an important component for the region's drinking water supply.
