Graffiti in front of supermarkets in Kronach and Lichtenfels: Police are looking for witnesses!
Over the Pentecost weekend, graffiti was discovered at two supermarkets in Kronach and Lichtenfels, causing a stir. Unknown people had left several graffiti with white and yellow spray paint. Particularly striking was a lettering with a political statement on the subject of animal welfare, such as In Franconia reported. The material damage amounts to around 300 euros per store.
The Coburg criminal police have of course taken over the investigation and are asking the public for information. The graffiti in Kronach, more precisely in front of the E-Center Massak on Weißenbrunner Straße, was placed between Whit Monday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. In Lichtenfels you can find similar lettering in the entrance area of the E-Center Werner on Mainau Straße; These were sprayed between Saturday, 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, 6 a.m., like North Bavarian Press supplemented.
Investigations and suspects
The first investigation results were announced on Tuesday morning. Two men, a 75-year-old from Berlin and a 63-year-old from Kronach, were identified as suspects. Their capture was supported by surveillance videos. They are charged with criminal damage and trespassing.
Crime statistics show that such incidents are not uncommon. Despite an overall decline in crime in Germany of 1.7% in 2024, some crimes that affect people's sense of security remain high. The clearance rate was 58% in 2024, raising questions about the causes, according to information from Statista. Recording such damage to property is important in order to get a clearer picture of the situation on site.
The police are appealing to the public to provide relevant information about the incidents. Witnesses are asked to contact the Coburg criminal police on 09561/645-0. Only together can we ensure that the streets of our cities remain clean and that such acts do not go unpunished.
