Baywa closes location in Kronach: Farmers in great need!

Kronach, Deutschland - An economic shock is emerging for the Kronach region: Germany's largest agricultural dealer, Baywa, is planning to close its location in Kronach by the end of June 2025 and in other Bavarian cities such as Thiersheim and Velden. This measure is part of a comprehensive renovation concept that provides a total of 26 location closings by 2027. in Franconia report local media report that the closures will be heavily burdened in the region. Small companies in particular, which often cannot apply the necessary amount for a whole truck charge, are affected.

The announced closure is not accidental. Baywa suffered a loss of over 93 million euros in the past financial year, which made the measures necessary. The Bavarian Farmers' Association, represented by Harald Köppel, expresses its deep regret in this context and concerns about the consequences of the closings. "The farmers in the area will have to cover longer paths, which means additional costs and time," says Köppel. Cereal entry and fertilizer edition will in future be relocated to Burgkunstadt, where a new infrastructure is created.

comprehensive renovation concept

like the Bauernzeitung reported, Baywa is planning to close ten further agricultural trading locations in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. This does not happen in the context of a regular insolvency procedure, but in the course of a starug procedure that is intended to enable the renovation outside of insolvency proceedings. The goal is to maintain the consent of over 95 percent of the creditors and thus to redesign their own future.

The company is currently chosen its location network for economy. Out of a total of 400 locations, 26 were classified as not economical enough. While most of the employees concerned are to continue to be employed at other locations, some are obliged to make their pension claims. The exact number of decreasing positions will amount to up to 1,300.

an opportunity for new players

In the middle of these challenges, however, there is a ray of hope: Nicolas Roth from Roth Land- und Kommunalechnik GmbH plans to close the gap caused by the BayWa closure. Roth's company, which has been active since April 2023, not only wants to offer agricultural machines, but also take over the areas that previously served Baywa. "There is something!" Roth is motivated to continue to offer the farmers in the region.

The fate of Baywa and the associated changes are a major challenge for agriculture in the region. With fewer contact points for farmers and a decline in local infrastructure, it will be crucial how quickly new alternatives are found and whether companies like Roths are actually able to provide the necessary service.

It remains to be seen how the situation will develop, but one thing is clear: the closures are spinning a shadow on the future of agriculture in Kronach and the surrounding area.
