On Wednesday morning, around 10:30 a.m., the residents of Kitzingen experienced an unexpected surprise when water suddenly shot out of the pavement on Königsplatz at the level of the HypoVereinsbank. The jet of water spread like lightning and turned Königsplatz and a section of Kaiserstrasse into a small lake. Within a few seconds, the paving stones on Kaiserstrasse lifted as the water found a new path and flowed bubbling down the street, the reported Main Post.
A not exactly common sight, which also messed up the traffic situation in Kitzingen. A few days earlier, on Monday morning, a water pipe burst on Jahnstrasse, near the intersection with the B 8. Here too, the rapid spread of the water caused traffic disruptions. Repairing the pipe proved challenging as it was located under a traffic light. This had to be dismantled and the foundation broken up, meaning that around 20 affected households had to survive without water until 9 p.m., according to reports Radio gong.
Current traffic situation and safety
The work on Jahnstrasse is now well advanced, but traffic routing will not remain unproblematic for the time being. Traffic will be diverted to one lane in front of the construction site, while a temporary traffic light solution regulates the flow of traffic. The Kitzingen light, power and water works warn that the damaged traffic light could still take a long time to be put back into operation.
The water pipe burst at Königsplatz was quickly followed by measures: the city administration immediately mobilized specialists to resolve the incident. Anyone driving along Kaiserstraße should therefore continue to expect disruptions while the repairs progress and the responsible authorities do everything in their power to ensure stable traffic again.
