Philipp Knecht triumphs as German Taekwondo champion!

There was recently an exciting taekwondo match in Düsseldorf, which was all about the young talent Philipp Knecht from the Taekwondo Association Allgäu (TGA). The young fighter prevailed in the youth class up to 48 kilograms and crowned his achievement with the title of German youth champion. “Philipp defeated his opponents confidently and never gave up a round in a single fight,” says coach Oliver Knecht, pleased about his protégé’s brilliant success. Already in his first appearance, Knecht hardly gave his opponent a chance and scored clear hits in both rounds before he was also superior to Ziad Chlihi from Hesse in all rounds in the semi-final.

Knecht played the big final against Roman Boxberger and was able to prove his dominance again. While the fans from the Allgäu who traveled along celebrated loudly, the enthusiasm in the team and among the spectators was unmistakable. “It was a great team effort,” adds Mariia Leliukh, who led the TGA team in Düsseldorf together with Oliver Knecht. The TGA was represented with a total of five fighters at the German Youth and Senior Championships, including Joshua Mair, Nicolas Knecht, Robert Triebel and Sebastian Martin, who were unable to prevail in the preliminary fights, but gained valuable experience.

Invitations for the future

With his title, Philipp Knecht was not only crowned German champion, but also received an invitation to the national squad course in Hennef. This opportunity will take him to a new level and he is expected to represent the German Taekwondo Union national team at the Austria Open in Innsbruck in mid-June. Another milestone in the career of a promising Taekwondoka who is already causing a stir and is very popular.

The growing popularity of Taekwondo in Germany over the decades is remarkable. According to the German Taekwondo Union, which was founded in 1981 and now has around 60,000 members, the sport is one of the most popular martial arts in Germany. In addition to promoting competition, the DTU also attaches great importance to training and integrating new talent. This also includes the fact that Germany hosted the Taekwondo World Championships twice and has developed a comprehensive training structure. The first Taekwondo club in Germany was founded in 1964 and the scene has continuously developed since then.

Philipp Knecht's title is not only a personal success, but also a sign of the continuous development work and promotion of young talent within the Allgäu Taekwondo community. All eyes are now on Innsbruck, where Knecht will take the next steps in his career.
