Kaufbeuren: 79% of cyclists feel insecure - urgent need for action!
The results of the latest bicycle climate test of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) create a queasy atmosphere among cyclists in Kaufbeuren. With a grade of 4.4, the city scores even worse than two years ago when it received an assessment of 4.1. This shows that improvements are urgently needed here to make cycling safer and more pleasant. 79 percent of those surveyed state that they feel unsafe when cycling, such as Allgäuer Zeitung reports.
In Germany -wide comparison, Kaufbeuren also occupies one of the lower places, namely 393 of 429 cities with a population between 20,000 and 50,000. In Bavaria, Kaufbeuren only ranks 4th out of 49 cities and thus clearly shows that the concerns of cyclists are not sufficiently taken into account.

The participants of the test, a total of 117 in number, were not only expressed about their general uncertainty, but also about concrete problems: 88 percent experienced unpleasant situations in mixed traffic with cars, and 83 percent report conflicts with drivers. These conflicts often have to do with the inadequate infrastructure, because many stated that bike paths and strips are too narrow and uneven.
However,A ray of hope can be seen: 68 percent of the respondents rate the accessibility of the city center by bike positively. Furthermore, the release of one -way streets is very popular for cyclists in the opposite direction, which indicates the desire for more bicycle security. In addition, more than half of the cyclists can orient themselves well on the signs.
