B16 full closure: construction work starts on Wednesday - this is how you avoid traffic jams!

Construction work on the B16 continues to gain momentum: On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 7:30 a.m., the third construction phase begins in the area of the Zell intersection, like Pfaffenhofen Today reported. The B16 between Münchener Straße and Zeller Junction has been completely closed since May 28th due to the renovation of the badly damaged roadway. This full closure is expected to last until Sunday, June 22nd.

Why is the construction work actually necessary? It's quite simple: The road, which is around four kilometers long, has suffered greatly and requires extensive renovation work. The investment of around 2 million euros by the Federal Republic of Germany shows how seriously the matter is taken. The construction project will be carried out in three phases and is planned to last well into June, with public holidays and bridge days not being left out in order to complete the work on time. That's what reports it too Ingolstadt State Building Authority.

Detours and traffic routing

In the third construction phase, there will be a construction site traffic light, while the normal traffic light system will be out of operation. For all road users who want to drive towards Ingolstadt, take the diversion via Neuschwetzingen and Weichering. For western federal highway traffic, the diversion route from the Feldkirchen exit via Wagenhofen, Stengelheim and Karlshuld to the Zeller intersection remains unchanged. The diversion route for traffic from the direction of Ingolstadt also remains the same as in the second construction phase: you can get back to the B16 via the Audi roundabout, Alarmstraße and the temporary slip road to Alten Neuburger Straße.

The construction work will not only renew the B16 in a resource-saving manner, but will also ensure transport connections to other important traffic arteries. This means that the traffic connection between the B16 Ingolstadt and the state road 2043 in the direction of the Audi roundabout remains possible.

The schedule

After the third construction phase has been completed, the “Alarmstrasse” and the main guard access to Zell airfield will be closed from Monday, June 23rd at 8 a.m. The “Alarmstrasse” can then only be used up to the northern exit ramp onto the B16, as the bridge over the B16 is not passable. The asphalt surface on the northern bridge abutment will be renewed over 35 meters. The schedule calls for the “Alarmstrasse” and the Hauptwache access to be reopened on Wednesday, June 25th. The old Neuburger Straße will also receive a new asphalt surface layer, and 200 meters of the sidewalks and cycle paths in the direction of Marienheim will be renovated, which represents a significant improvement for pedestrians and cyclists.

Residents and commuters are advised that they must be prepared for longer journey times. The Ingolstadt State Building Authority asks for your understanding and increased caution in the construction site area. If everything goes according to plan, all measures will result in the roadway becoming safer and more comfortable, so that all road users will soon be able to travel unhindered and safely again.
