Special train adventure: Discover the Alps with the FME on July 5th!

What's new on the track? On Saturday, July 5, 2025, a very special event awaits lovers of historic railways: the Franconian Museum Railway e.V. Nuremberg (FME) organizes a special train that takes travelers directly to the beautiful Alpine region. More specifically, we go to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, to the foot of the Zugspitze and to the picturesque Mittenwald in the Karwendel Mountains.

If you want to take advantage of the opportunity, you should get there in good time. The train starts at around 6:27 a.m. in Fürth Hbf and makes further stops in Nuremberg, Schwabach, Roth, Pleinfeld, Treuchtlingen, Donauwörth and Augsburg Hbf before arriving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at around 12:08 p.m. There, passengers have around five hours to enjoy the beauty of the Bavarian Alps before continuing on to Mittenwald at 12:58 p.m. There is also enough time to explore the surrounding area - around four hours! In the late afternoon the train returns to Nuremberg Hbf and Fürth Hbf via the same stations.

One-time fares and special offers

For everyone who is considering this trip to the alpine paradise, the fares are pleasing: From Fürth Hbf, Nuremberg Hbf, Schwabach and Roth these are:

Class Adult Child (4-14 years) Families (2 adults, 3 children)
1st class 131€ 66€
2nd class 89€ 44 € €236

The offer is particularly tempting for families! For anyone who wants to use the Zugspitzbahn or Karwendelbahn, there are also discounted tickets that can be pre-ordered. For further information and to order tickets, we recommend taking a look at the website Franconian Museum Railway or the information telephone on 09127/902228.

A look behind the scenes at FME

Since its founding in Nuremberg in 1985, the Franconian Museum Railway has been committed to preserving and promoting interest in historic railway vehicles. Not only does it offer nostalgic rides, but it also helps keep the memory of the steam locomotive era alive. In addition to operating historic trains on the Gräfenberg local railway, the association also organizes various special trips in the region.

Before the FME was founded, there was only the Transport Museum in Nuremberg - the initiative of the club members has since then significantly promoted the cultural heritage of railway history in Bavaria. The club's historical treasures include numerous conversion and baggage cars, which bring the cold iron of steam power to life and are a real highlight for many railway fans.

So if you want to feel the smell of the old steam locomotives in the air and at the same time enjoy the impressive Alpine landscape, then the FME special train is just the thing for you. Pack your bags and experience a day full of nostalgia and adventure!

How did they once say? “The best journey begins at the railway station!” Don't miss this special excursion!
