Attention tree lovers: orchard campaign starts in Fürth!

Something is happening in the orchards in the municipality of Fürth! The new orchard campaign starts on August 13, 2025, which not only supports local garden culture, but also makes a valuable contribution to biodiversity. Interested citizens are invited to contact Maximilian Dörsam to take part in the campaign. If you would like to find out more about the options, you can reach him by phone at 06253 / 2001-65 or by email at m.doersam@gemeinde-fuerth.de.

The prices for the fruit trees are around 29 euros for apples, pears, plums and cherries, while the quince is estimated at 32.50 euros. A price of 44 euros is due for larvae from the container. In addition, there is a flat rate fee of 10 euros per orderer to cover transport and administrative costs. Please note that all prices exclude 7% VAT. Due to the high demand, different varieties have to be purchased from the tree nurseries, which has also led to an increase in prices.

Important dates and details

If you would like to order a tree, you should submit your written orders to the municipality by September 30, 2025. The trees will then be picked up on November 13, 2025 between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. from the construction yard on Carl-Benz-Str. 6 in Fürth. It is important that bare-root trees are picked up on the day of delivery. Anyone who can travel with larger vehicles has a clear advantage here.

Over the last 30 years, the planting campaigns have not only led to the revival of traditional fruit trees in the Weschnitztal, but have also highlighted the importance of orchards. These meadows are not only an ecological highlight, they also provide habitat for many animal species and help prevent soil erosion and moderate extreme temperatures. In fact, orchards in Bavaria are an important element of the cultural landscape and are under the protection of the German Federal Nature Conservation Act, which has classified them as a biotope since March 2022.

Orchard cultivation is changing

Orchards, which are traditional forms of fruit trees with tall, dispersed trees, have played an important role in recent decades - not only in Bavaria, but also throughout southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland. But stocks have declined sharply since the 1920s. In 2020, it was estimated that there were only 7.1 million orchard fruit trees left in Germany, a dramatic decline compared to 18 million in 1965. But there are bright spots: more and more people are getting involved and committed to caring for and preserving these valuable areas.

If you also want to do something for nature and are interested in healthy fruit, do not hesitate to place your order and become part of this valuable initiative. Together we can promote the protection and promotion of orchards – for a colorful and diverse future! Further information about the orchard conservation campaigns can be found on the Fürth municipality website here and also on Wikipedia this link.
