Drinking water shortage in Solla: repairing the leaks brings relief!
The situation in Solla, a small district of Thurmansbang in the beautiful Bavarian Forest, has stabilized after a few turbulent weeks. The 400 residents can breathe a sigh of relief because the drinking water supply is now guaranteed again after numerous leaks in the pipe system were discovered and repaired. This reported BR24.
Mayor Stefan Wagner (CSU) made the good news public that the water reserves in the elevated tank have been increasing again since the weekend. The milk truck, which ensured the water supply during the difficult time, has now completed its business trip. Although the situation is relaxed, it remains tense, as Wagner explained. “We must continue to monitor the situation,” he added.
Causes and outlook
The lack of drinking water in the region was due in particular to the dilapidated pipe system. Due to drought and dry springs, the water levels had fallen critically. The causes of the numerous pipe bursts include clogged fittings, rust in the water and frequent pipe damage, such as German damage assistance explained. These problems are not only an issue locally, but also in many other communities, often exacerbated by aging infrastructure.
Fortunately, several large pipe bursts were found outside Solla and successfully repaired. This shows the need for a long-term solution: the fundamental renovation of the existing water network is essential. Discussions are already underway with construction companies about possible emergency lines that could also supply the neighboring community of Schönberg with water. But this would require special pumping systems, which would increase the effort even further.
Important information event
In order to provide citizens with comprehensive information and to answer questions, the community is inviting people to a meeting in the fire station on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Mayor Wagner will talk about the current situation and the next steps. Residents were also urged to check their properties for water sources to detect possible leaks and prevent further damage.
Looking ahead shows that the renovation and expansion of the water supply for Solla and the surrounding area is a priority. It remains to be hoped that the community will tackle the challenges with a good hand and find a sustainable solution for the drinking water supply. Because in the future too, you don't want to have to go without a reliable source of water in the picturesque Bavarian Forest.
