DSC manager Liebergesell in the balancing act: dream of advancement, reduce costs!
It is a real balancing act that Stefan Liebergesell, authorized representative of Deggendorfer SC (DSC), is currently performing. The 31-year-old has now been working in a managerial position at the ice hockey top league team for over six years and can look back on a year that is considered the toughest of his tenure. While the club's operations have been suspended since the beginning of April due to the summer break, Liebergesell is working intensively on the financial planning of professional operations and balancing the loss from last year. His goal is clear: The DSC should return to the DEL2, the second highest German ice hockey league. reports that the club is now responding with cost-cutting measures due to financial challenges that have existed since the pandemic.
In a recent email to the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB), Liebergesell outlined the club's current situation and advocated finding a solution to the rising player salaries. These salaries, which have skyrocketed due to inflation and market changes, are putting a huge strain on the DSC's coffers. “We didn’t give any players more money this season, and some even gave up their salary,” explains Liebergesell. In order to address the financial difficulties, he sees the need for a salary cap. The DSC will continue to make efforts to plan its squad, with 20 positions currently filled - only two player spots still available. However, the high prices on the player market make the commitments much more difficult.
Infrastructure and viewership
While the sporting challenges lie ahead, the DSC is also thinking about infrastructural measures. Projects are being planned to strengthen the club in a variety of ways, including the installation of a flex perimeter and a new checkout system, while the youth department is being handed over. Moving to larger office space is also on the agenda. Liebergesell sees these as important steps to both increase the club's attractiveness and provide an improved stadium experience. With spectator numbers of 1,800 to 1,900 per home game, the club would like to attract more people to the stadium in the future.[a href=“https://www.eishockey.net/deggendorfer-sc“]eishockey.net[/a]
The ice rink on the Trat, home of Deggendorfer SC, offers space for up to 2,790 spectators. The club colors red and blue not only characterize the appearance, but also symbolize the long tradition of the club, which was founded in 1976. The DSC's youth teams have established themselves in the highest leagues in Bavaria and offer a solid foundation for the club's future. This youth work should continue to provide a breath of fresh air in the first team and firmly anchor the DSC in ice hockey in the region.
In order to advance preparations for the coming season, admission documents must be prepared and annual financial statements prepared in May and June. Liebergesell has also arranged a planning meeting with Artur Frank in Plattling to discuss further topics. The next few weeks will be crucial to whether the DSC can find its way out of the current crisis and whether the dream of returning to the DEL2 is within reach.[a href=“https://www.eishockey.net/deggendorfer-sc“]eishockey.net[/a]
