New magazine Frigisinga: Discover stories from Freising's past!

In the district of Freising, there are exciting news from the world of culture and tradition. The newly placed magazine "Frigisinga", which is reminiscent of a historical regional history sheet, was presented on April 10, 2024 in the district office and offers an exciting platform for contemporary historical topics from the city and district. As reports Kreis-freising.de, the magazine appears twice a year and can be obtained both as a single issue and by subscription.

The first edition of this magazine is already a small treasure; It illuminates many interesting aspects of Freising's history. These include, for example, the forgotten Bockerlbahn from Massenhausen to Neufahrn as well as the Korbinianslinde and old excursion restaurant in the region. The development of the power supply in Moosburg and the synchronization of the Freising city council in 1933 are not neglected. An exciting interview with local researcher Adolf Widman rounds off the offer of content. If you love history, you will find some real treats here!

horse racing traditions and old stories

Especially for the racial nars in the region there is another nostalgic review: In the Freising city archive, a printed list of results of the horse races of April 19, 1812 was discovered. This list contains detailed information about various races, including third place in racing number 4. Franz Xaver Krenkl, a former racing professional and several winners of the Oktoberfest horse race, is mentioned in this context. His famous saying towards Crown Prince Ludwig when he overtook his carriage - "Majesty, who Ko, the Ko" - has become legendary in Freising. Interested parties learn more about this on freising.de.

The horse-racer tradition in Freising has deep, historical roots. Horse races took place annually until the late 20th century, which were often part of the folk festival. This tradition goes back to the baroque church races, which took place during celebrations in honor of saints. Although many church races were banned at the end of the 18th century due to the education and the Bavarian secularization, the profane horse racing in the region continued to bloom. The first documented profane horse race took place in April 1811, organized by local brewery owners, such as merkur.de reported.

a festival for the region

The races not only offered sporting competitions, but were also an important social event. Year after year, riders registered in the town hall, pulled their racing number and rode on a distance of a good 1200 meters. The number of spectators could rise to the thousands. It is no wonder that these events brought people together and created a space for community feeling and joy.

The award ceremony also attracted great attention every year: cash prizes for the front places and material prices for the rear ones. There were also ironically four horseshoes for the last place - a tradition that certainly made some laughs.

In view of all of these exciting aspects,

the combination of traditional culture and historical revision in the Freising region is a real reason to be happy. The newly created “Frigisinga” invites all historical enthusiasts to immerse yourself in the past and to discover the variety of stories that can be told here.
