150 years of SG Teutonia Hohenkammer: a festival of tradition and community!

Hohenkammer, Deutschland - With a proud look into the past, SG Teutonia Hohenkammer celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. The club was founded in 1875 by the Baron Richard von Vequel-Westernach, which laid the foundation for a long history. With almost 150 members, the club is the second oldest in Hohenkammer after the fire brigade, which is no wonder when you consider how quickly it developed at the time and made a name for himself in the region. At that time, around 1875, the Teutonia started with only 25 to 30 members and organized around 14 shooting evenings annually, which was also a considerable commitment at the time.

As early as 1885, the Baron showed his connection with the club by donating a flag that certainly tells many stories. In 1925 the community celebrated the 50th anniversary with around 250 guests from Upper Bavaria, and the proceeds of 1000 Reichsmark were used for the club flag. In the following decades, the association was not only known for its shooting evenings, but also for the numerous events that it organized as part of the village community.

festival program for the anniversary

The association has come up with an exciting program for the celebrations for the 150th anniversary. On Thursday, June 19, a rifle grill festival will take place in the primary school's schoolyard from 10 a.m. On Friday, June 20, guests can look forward to a music cabaret entitled "Total for two", which will be performed in the multi-purpose hall at 8 p.m. The highlight of the celebrations will follow on Sunday, June 22nd. Here there is the wake -up call at 6:30 a.m., followed by a church train at 10 a.m. and a festival service at 10:30 a.m. The parade at 11:45 a.m. is accompanied by 16 delegations, which will be a great way to show the colorful variety of the region. Sunday is rounded off by honors and award ceremonies at 2 p.m., which should honor the merits of long -standing members.

A look at the history

The shooting club is more than just an institution for those of shooting sports. Originally founded in Germany as part of the rural structure, it has always adapted and developed to new circumstances over time. As explained on Society-Jaegerlust.de , shooting clubs have a long history that started in the origins of the 19th century after the Napoleonic wars. The idea behind these clubs was not only sport, but also a social cooperation and a political function in the bourgeoisie at the time.

What the SG Teutonia Hohenkammer particularly distinguishes is the strong sense of community and close cooperation with other clubs, especially with the fire brigade, with which it also organizes traditional events such as the carnival ball. This cooperation shows how important the association is for the local community.

After the difficulties during the Second World War, when the association had to stop its activities in 1939, it was re -founded in 1953 with a lot of commitment by 32 members. Since then, the club has experienced numerous ups and downs, but it is always reflected in the passion of its members. The association currently wants a permanently existing shooting range with fixed stands to continue to promote popular shooting sports.

Finally, it can be said: The SG Teutonia Hohenkammer has experienced and built a lot in these 150 years. A very special community is probably needed to maintain such traditions. A look into the future is optimistic and shows that the roots of the past are strongly interwoven in the present. One can certainly say: here tradition is not only maintained, but also lived.
